Even after the San Antonio Spurs' loss to the Miami Heat, DeMar DeRozan is still optimistic about the team's direction.

The Spurs suffered a heartbreaking 106-102 loss to the Heat on Wednesday. DeRozan knows that Miami is among the best teams in the East, and the fact that they competed well against them despite the loss is a confidence booster.

“We are going to be fine. It sucks right now, but there is a lot of basketball to be played. We are trending in the right direction. Playing well against great teams, been beating some great teams, which has done a lot for our confidence,” DeRozan said, per Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News.

Against the Heat, who are second in the East with a 28-12 record, the Spurs kept it close the entire game. But come the fourth quarter, the Gregg Popovich-led squad faltered and Miami took advantage.

It's a tough loss, especially since the Spurs have faced and won against contenders like the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors in the last few games. Moreover, their wins over these contenders were not just wins but blowouts.

The Spurs currently sport a 17-22 record for ninth in the West. They are still in a good position to squeeze out a postseason appearance to continue Popovich's two-decade streak.

Before the 2019-20 season began, analysts quickly dismissed the Spurs' chances at making the playoffs. Yet, as the regular season approaches its midway mark, San Antonio is one spot away from making it.

As DeMar DeRozan remarked, the fact that they can compete with elite teams is a sign of good things to come.
