The San Antonio Spurs take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday and Spurs shooting guard DeMar DeRozan will not play.

DeMar DeRozan was a late scratch due to left ankle soreness. Veteran big man Pau Gasol will start in DeRozan's place.

In his first season with the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan is averaging 21.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. The four-time All-Star is shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 17.5 percent from beyond the arc and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs enter Friday with a record of 26-20, good for sixth place in the Western Conference standings. DeMar DeRozan leads San Antonio in scoring, so it's going to be an uphill battle for the team on Friday to try and beat a Minnesota squad which plays very well at home.

Friday will be the first game all season that DeMar DeRozan will miss. The guard is very durable. San Antonio is likely just being cautious with him since it's a long season and he's the best player on the team. LaMarcus Aldridge will be the main option on offense on Friday against the Timberwolves with DeRozan out of the lineup.

In three games this season versus Minnesota, DeMar DeRozan is averaging 16.7 points per game.
