The biggest move the San Antonio Spurs made over the offseason was trading for DeMar DeRozan, but not to be overlooked is Jakob Poeltl coming over in that deal and getting the opportunity to study under future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. Duncan has taken Poeltl under his wing, teaching him the critical skills he'll need to be successful as a Spur.

“He is just constantly there, giving me advice, tips and tricks, telling me stuff that I should look out for,” Poeltl said. “It is really helpful, because a lot of times, it’s the little things that make a difference.”

Duncan became a five-time NBA champion and a three-time NBA Finals MVP in his 19 years as a Spur. Poeltl considers it an honor to train with an NBA great like Duncan. Playing against him is an experience he'll never forget.

“I remember the first time I played against him it was three-on-three, and I scored on him,” Poeltl contiued. “I think I had a pump fake and he fell for it or something like that. It was a pretty surreal feeling, I’m not going to lie.”

Poeltl is entering his third year in the NBA. Poeltl had career-high averages of 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds last season with the Toronto Raptors, and he may be in for his best year yet thanks to Duncan's guidance.

The Spurs haven't played a preseason game yet, but they'll take on the Miami Heat Sunday. Fans will get to see just how much of Duncan's toolbox Poeltl has retained.
