With the Milwaukee Bucks interviewing Becky Hammon for their head coaching job, it seems more and more likely that at some point, Hammon will get her shot as a head coach.

There have been a lot of people who have questioned if Hammon really has what it takes to be a head coach in the NBA, but one guy who doesn't have any doubt is Pau Gasol.

Gasol wrote an article in The Players' Tribune to layout the reasons why he thinks that Hammon should get that shot, and try to refute some of the reasons that people say she can't.

“I’ve been in the NBA for 17 years. I’ve won two championships … I’ve played with some of the best players of this generation … and I’ve played under two of the sharpest minds in the history of sports, in Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich. And I’m telling you: Becky Hammon can coach. I’m not saying she can coach pretty well. I’m not saying she can coach enough to get by. I’m not saying she can coach almost at the level of the NBA’s male coaches. I’m saying: Becky Hammon can coach NBA basketball. Period.”

Pau continued with a story about a drill that he and Dejounte Murray were doing midseason. Hammon out of the corner of her eye noticed that Murray's bounce pass was a little to low, and not giving Gasol the best chance to score after the pass. Hammon stopped the practice and quickly fixed the issue.

“She noticed a small detail out of the corner of her eye — and then instantly located both the problem and the solution. And not only that, but we were also able to communicate with each other in such a way that we got the result that we needed. It’s a good reminder, I’d say, of the importance of communication between team members — especially at the NBA level. I don’t think I caught another stray pass the rest of the season.”

It will be interesting to see if or when she gets her shot, but it seems the idea is being accepted more and more around the NBA.
