Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner left his team's loss against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon as a result of a knee injury, but his teammates are under the impression that the injury is not serious, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Fowler adds that Jaylen Samuels is prepared to start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 if necessary but that the general feeling is that Conner's injury is “manageable.”

Conner carried the ball 11 times for 33 yards and a touchdown on Sunday and has totaled just 54 yards off 21 attempts through two games overall.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was originally selected by the Steelers in the third round (105th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent his rookie campaign playing behind Le'Veon Bell, so his playing time was limited, as he toted the ball just 32 times for 144 yards. Then, with Bell holding out for all of 2018, Conner got his first real opportunity last year and excelled, racking up 973 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 55 receptions for 497 yards and a score, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

However, Conner played in just 12 games due to a late-season ankle injury.

Pittsburgh was hoping that Conner would pick up right where he left off this season, but the halfback has struggled out of the gate, much like the Steelers' offense as a whole, which has managed just 29 points over the first two weeks.

In addition to Conner's injury, Pittsburgh also lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the season on Sunday due to an elbow injury.
