Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier may be walking again, but he isn’t going to be playing football anytime soon. His father, Vernon, says he’s still “submerged” in rehab as he works his way back from the serious spinal cord injury he suffered last year. But despite his current physical condition, the two-time Pro Bowler has found other ways to help out the Steelers.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Shazier has been spending a lot of time in the team’s practice facility this offseason. Unsurprisingly, he’s been lending a helping hand to his fellow linebackers, particularly the younger players still learning the ropes of the Steelers’ defensive scheme.

“He’s always around. He’s in meetings, I see him working in the training room, working in the weight room,” Steelers tight end Jesse James said. “Just taking it one day at a time, doing his thing, helping the team as much as he can.”

It’s truly remarkable that someone in Shazier’s situation is still finding the time to help out the team. He already has a lot on his plate with his grueling rehab. But instead of using his free time to relax, he's choosing to spend it with the team and contribute what he can.

The Steelers will also have their hands full in terms of compensating for Shazier’s absence this season. But while they can’t replace the Pro Bowler’s sheer ability, Shazier’s assistance in terms of the coaching side will at least help his replacements be as prepared as possible for that difficult task.
