The Pittsburgh Steelers signed cornerback Steven Nelson on Thursday. This coming season, Nelson will be tasked with covering new Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., whom the Browns acquired in a trade with the New York Giants earlier in the week.

When asked about the prospect of defending Beckham, Nelson said he is looking forward to it:

“I welcome that challenge,” Nelson said about facing Beckham, according to Bryan Deardo of 247 Sports. “Twice a year, all year.”

Nelson used to be a nickelback, but last season, he was moved to the outside with the Kansas City Chiefs. He understands what comes with being a starting cornerback in the NFL:

“Just being on the outside, you’re gonna get more targets,” Nelson said. “The ball is going to be coming your way. You just have more opportunities. If you’re a playmaker and you have a knack for the ball, you’re just able to make more plays that way.”

As for whether Nelson can help the Steelers force more turnovers, which was something they struggled with this past season: Nelson thinks he is just the man for the job:

“I've heard it,” Nelson said of Pittsburgh's lack of forced turnovers in 2018. “I actually didn’t know that. I know this year will be different. We’re going to do some great things with our team and change it around this year.”

Nelson is coming off a 2018 campaign in which he started all 16 games and registered 68 tackles, four interceptions, and 15 passes defended.
