With the 2021 NFL Trade Deadline right around the corner, the rumor mill has hit its stride with potential trade options. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one team being mentioned, as apparently the front office has been fielding offers for Melvin Ingram.

According to Ian Rapoport, Ingram could be on the way out via trade. Pittsburgh acquired the veteran pass rusher in the offseason, however, it hasn't worked out the way the franchise had hoped. In the six games he's played in so far, Ingram has only recorded 10 total tackles leading up to Week 7.

Luckily for Pittsburgh, they're not lacking in pass rushers. TJ Watt is one of the best in the NFL, while Alex Highsmith has become a consistent pass rusher himself. Ingram has played more of a backup role but isn't offering much production when his number is called upon.

Trading Melvin Ingram away would make tremendous sense, as the Steelers need help elsewhere. They could attempt to acquire a future draft pick, or better yet, an offensive lineman. Pittsburgh needs to balance out the roster and if they can acquire an offensive line, they should jump on the opportunity.

Ben Roethlisberger is a statue, and the offense has been stagnant more often than not. On the other hand, the defense has kept the Steelers competitive and they can afford to trade Melvin Ingram. This team is still in the middle of a playoff race and this would be a smart move to make by the front office.

We'll see what happens, as nothing has come to fruition yet. However, there is one team that may show interest. The Kansas City Chiefs are in need of a pass rusher and could be willing to make a deal happen, per Ian Rapoport. He states:

“The Chiefs have been among those on the hunt around the league for a pass rusher, and they did host Ingram on a visit before he signed.”

Keep an eye on the Steelers and Melvin Ingram, as a potential trade could happen between now and the NFL trade deadline.
