The Phoenix Suns reportedly don't have any interest in trading for Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr., according to John Gambadoro of ArizonaSports.com.

The Mavs are reportedly looking to move Dennis Smith Jr. before the February trade deadline. The Suns have been looking for a starting-caliber point guard ever since last summer, but it looks like they don't want Smith Jr.

In 28 games this season for the Mavs, Dennis Smith Jr. is averaging 12.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. The explosive guard is shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 68.1 percent from the free-throw line.

When Dallas drafted Smith Jr. with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the prevailing thought was he would develop into the franchise point guard.

However, with the emergence of rookie Luka Doncic this year, Dallas has determined to build around the 19-year-old instead of Smith Jr.

Why the Suns don't have interest in Dennis Smith Jr. is unknown as of right now. He's a guy who can get to the basket at will and finish above the rim, but Smith Jr.'s ball dominant style of play might not mesh well with Suns star shooting guard Devin Booker, who also needs the ball in his hands to be effective.
