A famed tennis journalist has made a bold claim about Novak Djokovic's career goals which involves Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Novak Djokovic is expected to continue where he left off in the 2022 season with a lasting rivalry with Russia's Daniil Medvedev brewing.
While many are convinced that the pair will be the two most dominant ATP stars once again, well-known journalist Carole Bouchard claims “The Joker” is not paying attention to any of it. Instead, Djokovic has got his sights locked on unanimously exceeding Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
“The rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev has certainly grown in the last year, but it will never be like Borg-McEnroe or Federer-Nadal. First of all, it must be remembered that between Djokovic and Medvedev there are about 10 years of difference,” Bouchard said via Tennis World USA.
“In addition, Medvedev has shown that he can compete with Djokovic for a single season and only on hard courts,” she continued. “The Russian has to improve a lot on grass and clay to reach Nole's level. Djokovic’s obsession is to win his 21st Grand Slam in order to overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. His purpose is not to beat Medvedev or Zverev.”
As things stand, “The Big Three” are tied up with 20 Grand Slam titles apiece. Federer is in the twilight years of his career while Nadal has been dealing with injuries after injuries. Without any career-ending injuries or whatnot, Djokovic will surely pass the pair soon.
Until then, fans will still get to enjoy watching the three legendary tennis players do their thing.
