Da-da da! Did you hear that? That sounds like explosions and mayhem, and the culprit’s none other than Klee! Our lovable ball of chaos and cuteness arrives once again to prove herself to be the strongest warrior of Mondstadt… kinda. I mean, who else could carve a mountain and destroy a lake alone in Genshin Impact?

Klee first appeared 7 months ago in the game’s second Character Wish banner. And now she’s back in a re-run banner, arriving timely with Version 1.6, where certain events are centered around Klee’s summer adventures. Our adorable Spark Knight finally gets a day off and finds an opportunity to explore faraway islands. Of course, she's still under the supervision of the Knights of Favonius, especially Jean.

Klee is a 5-star Pyro character who uses a catalyst (or specifically, a tome), and specializes in close to mid-range combat, while also being amazingly adept in exploration. Within Klee’s disposal is a deadly mix of consistent and burst damage, suited for any situation where Pyro is effective. Despite the recent surge of hyper carries like Ganyu and Hu Tao, Klee still stands as a high-tier carry who is able to do all content, while being flexible enough to be a support for certain compositions.

If you’re starting out as a new player, Klee is also one of the best characters for exploration, due to her attacks and abilities having the property of being Pyro AoE. Her talent also reveals nearby items unique to Mondstadt, like Dandelions or Wolfhooks. Klee has so many things at her disposal that she can easily gather ore and flora, burn thorny vines, break all kinds of shields, and even ignite cooking stations, all by herself.

Abilities Overview

Klee’s Elemental Skill, Jumpy Dumpty, is a tossed explosive that bounces three times, and splits into a cluster of mines after the third bounce. These mines explode upon contact with foes, or after a set duration, and can be moved around using Anemo abilities. The ability starts with 2 charges, and has a cooldown of 20s.

Jumpy Dumpty is Klee’s main source of burst damage, especially against large enemies like Mitachurls or most bosses. The biggest reason for this is that there is a limit to how many mines can appear at a time, and they automatically explode when replaced by new mines from a second Jumpy Dumpty. The ability’s bounce AoE can also overlap on large monsters, so all in all, it deals a ton more than what the numbers on the tooltip tell you.

Klee’s Elemental Burst, Sparks ‘n’ Splash, summons a ‘spark’ that continually shoots nearby enemies with fire beams over a 10-second duration. Keep in mind that this effect will expire once Klee leaves the field, so consider this when building a team around her. Sparks ‘n’ Splash is a great ability that shines in single-target situations, while still proving useful for kiting and general AoE use.

Klee’s first Talent, Pounding Surprise, gives her a 50% chance to gain an Explosive Spark when Jumpy Dumpty or her Normal Attacks deal DMG. This Explosive Spark is consumed by the next Charged Attack, while reducing its stamina cost and providing a 50% DMG bonus. This talent is the source of her consistent damage, and is very useful for conserving her stamina, which is better used for dodging and kiting enemy attacks.

Klee’s second Talent, Sparkling Burst, causes the whole party to gain 2 Elemental Energy when Klee’s Charged Attack gets a critical hit. It might not seem to be much, but it’s actually phenomenal for giving her supports a consistent source of energy, which allows for faster rotations and more damage.

Klee’s third Talent, All Of My Treasures!, lets you see the location of nearby items unique to Mondstadt on the mini-map. This is quite useful for exploration and for gathering materials, and definitely hastens gathering runs along with the help of an interactive map.

Best Weapon Build for Klee

Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds – (R1) Increases Movement SPD by 10%. When in battle, gain an 8% Elemental DMG Bonus every 4s. Max 4 stacks. Lasts until the character falls or leaves combat.

Probably her best-in-slot weapon, this catalyst has Crit Rate as its substat with amazing values, capping out at 33.1% Crit Rate! Its passive also grows in power the longer Klee stays with combat, and peaks at 32% Elemental DMG and 10% Movement SPD, which is extraordinary.

Dodoco Tales – (R5) Normal Attack hits on opponents increase Charged Attack DMG by 32% for 6s. Charged Attack hits on opponents increase ATK by 16% for 6s.

Obtained from an event in 1.6, this catalyst looks like Klee’s own, and its passive only proves it further. It has the same stats and substats as the Eye of Perception, but has a passive that perfectly synergizes with her playstyle and also gets a free max refinement from the event. If you don’t have a 5-star catalyst, there’s no reason not to use this over all the other 4* options.

Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers – (R5) When switching characters, the new character taking the field has their ATK increased by 48% for 10s. This effect can only occur once every 20s.

You didn’t expect this, did you? Along with Klee’s second constellation which reduces enemy DEF when hit by a Jumpy Dumpty, this weapon enables hard-hitting Physical carries like Razor and Eula. But even without constellations, Klee can still fill the support role thanks to her Talent providing Energy, and by just applying a lot of pyro overall.

Best Artifact Build for Klee

Crimson Witch of Flames – 2 Piece: Pyro DMG Bonus +15%
4 Piece: Increases Overloaded and Burning DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases the 2-Piece Set Bonus by 50% of its starting value for 10s. Max 3 stacks.

The universal artifact set for Klee. It increases her Pyro damage by 15%, and increases to 30% after using Jumpy Dumpty twice. It also increases the damage of Elemental Reactions that she’s triggering, though not as consistent. You can also opt for a 2-piece CW + 2-piece Gambler if you want to optimize her Jumpy Dumpy damage, which is amazing for a Sub-DPS Klee.

Building around Genshin Impact‘s Spark Knight

Klee is a very versatile character that can fill many roles, but is most often used as a main carry with a pure pyro playstyle. Though in certain situations, she can take the role of a Sub-DPS and a shieldbreaker, or sometimes as a support being a Thrilling Tales holder

Pure PyroAs long as you’re not fighting enemies who can resist Pyro attacks, this composition is the most versatile and easiest to build with. The ideal characters for this team are: Klee as the main carry, Bennett as the healer and buffer, Venti for the crowd control and Viridescent Venerer debuff, and Zhongli as the shielder and second debuffer. Although, the three characters are completely replaceable, as long as you can fit characters who can fulfil such roles.

Resonance Sub-DPS – Pyro resonance is quite the strong passive, which provides a huge 25% ATK to your whole team. With this, Klee as Sub-DPS can provide a lot of burst damage from her Jumpy Dumptys alone, while providing your team with tons of energy. She can also be a way to counter all kinds of shields, like rock shields, geo shields, dendro shields, which is really handy if you don’t have a claymore in your team.

Vaporize Klee – Klee works well with Xingqiu, thanks to his rain swords being faster than Klee’s normal attacks. This allows Klee’s normal attacks to vaporise the Hydro element, and not the other way around. Xingqiu also has really good ratios in his abilities, so even when Klee’s attacks don't vaporise, Xingqiu’s Vaporise could still deal a good chunk of damage instead.

Physical Support – Klee’s Second Constellation, Explosive Frags, causes Jumpy Dumpty’s mines to decrease foes’ DEF by 23% for 10s. This along with Thrilling Tales allow for a massive boost in damage for characters like Razor and Eula. This combination is so strong that it has been used in a lot of Eula damage showcases, or even as a Razor support in general.

If you’re still looking for a strong Pyro carry, or just want to indulge in cuteness, Klee is the perfect character to pull for. She might have been power crept by the newer characters, but she still stands as one of the best Pyro carries, and even has her niche uses from time to time.
