If you've been on social media the past few days, you've likely seen the video of Mike Tyson repeatedly punching a man on a plane. Allegedly, the former boxer grew impatient with the man heckling him on a JetBlue flight Wednesday night, prompting the physical attack.

Since the incident occurred, the man has been identified, first reported by TMZ. The victim of Tyson's jabs is Melvin George Townsend III, a 36-year-old man from Punta Gorda, Florida. While he was the victim of the physical altercation on Wednesday, Townsend has been charged with multiple criminal acts in his past.

According to Daily Mail, the Florida man has a criminal history dating back to January of 2008. He has served 15 and 20 months sentences and has eight separate offenses against him. Townsend's offenses include possession of Oxycodone, grand theft, burglary, trafficking of stolen property, and fraud.

Most recently, Townsend spent time in a Florida prison for fraudulent use of personal identification. The original sentencing was for 25 months, but Townsend was released after only 15 months in July of 2020.

Two subjects from the plane were detained and released, according to a San Francisco police statement (courtesy of Daily Mail).

‘Officers arrived and detained two subjects that were believed to be involved in the incident. One subject was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. That subject provided minimal details of the incident and refused to cooperate further with the police investigation. Both subjects were released under 849(b) of the California Penal Code.'

The incident involving Tyson and Townsend is pending further investigation.
