CORRECTION: A previous version of this article mistakenly read that Reggie Lewis died of a drug overdose. This has been edited to reflect the correct cause of Lewis' tragic death.

Love him or hate him, there’s no question Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players in Oklahoma City Thunder/Seattle SuperSonics franchise history. His No. 35 will likely go up in the rafters when it’s all said and done.

Until then, though, that number will be worn proudly by undrafted rookie P.J. Dozier.

Dozier, who recently signed a two-way contract with the Thunder after being waived by the Dallas Mavericks, will wear the number in honor of his second cousin, the late Reggie Lewis, per Erik Horne of The Oklahoman.

Lewis was a former Boston Celtics star who tragically died at the age of 27 after collapsing while shooting baskets at the team's training facility. The cause of death was a sudden cardiac attack-sudden terminal arrhythmia.

One would think that given Dozier’s sentimental reason for wearing the No. 35, there’s no added malice in the team's decision to give him that number, which was famously worn by Durant during his Thunder days.

However, not everyone saw it that way. One such person was none other than Kevin Durant’s agent, Rich Kleiman, who had a pointed reply to Royce Young’s tweet about the No. 35's return to OKC.

Technically, the Thunder did nothing wrong.

The No. 35 has not been retired yet and should be available for anyone who wants it.

But given Durant’s contentious relationship with the Thunder after his controversial exit, it’s understandable how some would be quick to give added meaning to the Thunder’s gesture.
