While many athletes have been part of pick-up runs during this offseason, Russell Westbrook has kept himself in MVP shape as well, doing some running of his own at UCLA, where he played a couple of seasons of college ball before declaring for the NBA.

A fairly overlooked prospect coming into college, Westbrook raise eyebrows with his motor and relentless style of play, features that still show as he heads into his 10th season in the league.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype noted the transition he's made at the historic basketball school, which have brought him from an overlooked recruit to the main attraction at the UCLA facilities.

“Westbrook has been playing there since the summer before his freshman season at UCLA – back when he was an overlooked recruit who wasn’t even on the NBA’s radar (as Fred Katz of CNHI Oklahoma broke down in this excellent article). Now, he’s the best player in the gym and everyone knows he takes these runs very seriously. One NBA player joked that the UCLA pick-up games often become “Russell vs. Everybody” given his intensity and knack for single-handedly taking over games. Just as Harden and Paul teamed up in the Drew League, Westbrook and Paul George (who are both from L.A.) played together at UCLA this summer in preparation for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s season.”

Westbrook has been rumored to have gotten even better than his monster triple-double season in 2016-17, now bringing George into the fold and building chemistry from early on in the offseason to tackle a loaded Western Conference that has geared up with plenty of talent.
