Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook received the Hardest To Guard award by the National Basketball Players Association during the Players' Voice Awards. These awards are a direct result of voting by the players of the league, as the motto reads: “the only awards voted on BY the players, FOR the players.”

Westbrook was an absolute blur this past season, a speed demon of a kind, managing not only to net the first triple-double season since Oscar Robertson but propelling his team to sixth place in the Western Conference and 57 wins in the regular season.

Whether it was his furious drives to the rim, his impressive offensive rebounding or his ability to find his teammates open on a consistent basis, Westbrook was a feared opponent, no matter who was in front of him.

The reigning MVP possesses a gear which most players are unable to reach, turning on the jets at the blink of an eye in transition and slithering his way to the basket multiple times a game.

His competitive nature and reckless abandon on the hardwood have earned him the respect of his peers, which has fittingly culminated in this award after an accolade-filled 2017-18 season.
