USC football released its updated depth chart today. Most positions remain the same, except for one notable change at wide receiver. Sophomore WR Raleek Brown, a former 5-star recruit, is no longer listed at the position. Lincoln Riley discussed Brown's future in the USC receiver room after Brown practiced with the scout team on Tuesday, as reported by Antonio Morales of The Athletic.

“Raleek's a really good player, but there's a lot of really good players here,” Riley said. “The margins are really, really thin between a lot of these guys. I would just encourage him like I would with the entire team.”

Raleek Brown was the No. 3 running back prospect in his high school class. He committed to Oklahoma out of Mater Dei HS to play for Lincoln Riley. Like many others, he switched his commitment to follow the coach he wanted to play for when Riley took the USC job. As a true freshman for the Trojans in 2022, Brown played a limited role. However, he showed flashes of the speed and burst that made him a highly-coveted prospect. Brown recorded 402 scrimmage yards on 58 touches and six all-purpose touchdowns.

This offseason, Riley switched Brown to wide receiver, along with freshman tight end Duce Robinson. The problem for Brown is that USC's receiver room is loaded with elite talent.

“He's going to be a tremendous player. If I start going down the names of guys I've had play reps on the scout team, there's quite a few that are big-time trophy winners and NFL players and all that,” Riley said. “Everybody's process is different, especially when you're making a position change.”

The position change figured to give USC a speedy slot receiver option. However, in a room with Dorian Singer, Mario Williams, Brendan Rice, Tahj Washington and more, it's difficult to earn snaps. Then freshman Zachariah Branch, who also has blazing speed, showed out in his debut. He could overshadow Brown going forward.

Brown didn't really see the field in Week 0 until the fourth quarter, and he caught just one pass for 14 yards. It's unclear what Brown's future with USC football looks like. However, if it holds a minimal role, he could be in the transfer portal soon enough.
