We're in the back end of the NBA regular season with the playoffs right around the corner. Most teams are making that final push for a spot in the postseason, but there are a few bottom-feeders likely already preparing for the NBA draft. The reason being, USC star Evan Mobley has officially declared to take his talents to the professional level.

It's not new for any basketball prospect to announce their declaration for the NBA. However, Mobley conducted it a bit differently than anyone else ever has, as he turned his declaration into an NFT (Non-Fungible Token).

NFT's have grown in popularity recently, as they've become a unique way for digital art to be bought and sold. Most are still learning about NFT's, but many have already jumped on board. The NBA was the first to get involved after NBA Top Shot has grown in popularity this year.

For Evan Mobley, not only is he declaring for the NBA, but he's giving himself an opportunity to make money off his decision. Anyone can purchase any NFT they want, as some have been selling for millions of dollars. They work similarly to how physical copies of art are bought and sold, but NFT's are completely digital.

Think of Evan Mobley's NFT of declaring for the NBA draft as an early rookie card you can collect, only you don't have a physical copy. Instead, you own the rights to that NFT. Mobley is likely to receive a nice payday from a fan, or collector before he even gets drafted into the league. Mobley is the first to ever create an NFT to declare for the draft, but, it's likely we see more coming in soon.
