Undrafted free agent forward V.J. Beachem has agreed to sign a partially-guaranteed contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The four-year Notre Dame star will have a chance to battle for a roster spot in this year’s training camp, agreeing to a deal shortly after center Stephen Zimmerman made the same agreement earlier on Wednesday.
Beachem made his niche as an outside shooter for the Fighting Irish, scoring 14.5 points per game and knocking down 36.1 percent of his shots from deep.
At 6-foot-8 and 200 pounds, the senior represents a well-seasoned player that took advantage of the absence of Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton from the Notre Dame roster.
Beachem can potentially fit the mold of a three-and-D prototype in the NBA, now a near-need in every roster for the versatility at both ends of the floor.
The 22-year-old will have to battle veterans Luol Deng and Corey Brewer for a roster spot in training camp, which shall he accomplish would favor the Lakers’ pockets coming into the 2018 offseason.
