What is VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai?
Riot Games organizes a premier competitive circuit for Valorant – the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT). The VCT is a year-long global tournament where professional players showcase their skills at the highest level. There are three stages during the VCT season- Challengers, Masters, and Champions. The Masters events help determine the best teams and award points for qualification to the end-of-year Champions event.
The VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai is the first international VALORANT event hosted in China. It is taking place from May 23 to June 9, 2024, with a prize pool of $1,000,000. The majority of the tournament, scheduled from May 23 to June 3, will be held at the Valo Arena. Following this, the final three days, spanning from June 7 to June 9, will take place at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Masters Shanghai Tournament Format
First of all, it's important to note that in the Masters Shanghai Arena, all teams do not have the same starting line. Stage 1 victors of each league are rewarded for their remarkable performances, which is why they are propelled directly to the Playoffs Stage. Winners of Stage 1 include:
- Americas – 100 Thieves
- Pacific – Paper Rex
- EMEA – Fnatic
- China – EDward Gaming
The remaining contenders, on the other hand, must prove their strength and resolve on the Swiss stage first.
Swiss Stage
Eight teams will be selected through a drawing process to engage in a series of best-of-three matches (BO3). The teams that manage to secure two wins will progress to the playoffs, whereas those with two losses will be eliminated. This stage of the competition ensures fairness and balance by providing teams with multiple opportunities to demonstrate their skills.
Playoffs Stage
Moving on, the four teams from the Swiss Stage will face off against the four victorious teams from Stage 1 in the playoffs. This stage employs a double-elimination bracket, offering teams a safety net to bounce back from a defeat. Additionally, each match in the playoffs follows a best-of-three series format, except for the Lower Bracket Final and the Grand Final, which are best-of-five series.

VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai Drops
Valorant esports fans who cannot attend the VCT 2024 Masters Shanghai in person can still participate in the excitement by earning a unique in-game cosmetic commemorating the event.
The Drops for the tournament include a Buddy and a Title. The Title pays homage to a popular local cheer used to support teams, while the Buddy is inspired by a beloved dish native to Shanghai.
In Valorant, Gunbuddies or buddies are weapon charms that are attached to the guns to slightly modify the weapon's appearance. However, having a gun buddy does not affect the gameplay at all.
Player Titles, on the other hand, are a different kind of cosmetic in Valorant. A player title is shown beneath the player's in-game name while in the game lobby, in the friends list, while on the game loading screen, and on the player's profile that the enemy sees.
Not only that but the highly anticipated unveiling of the New Map is scheduled to take place just before the Grand Finals on June 9. In addition to this, it will be accompanied by an exciting Showmatch, adding an extra layer of anticipation and entertainment to the event.
