It has been quite the road to recovery for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Following a horrific, potentially career-threatening knee injury, he is back healthy and poised to finally lead a team of his own in the 2018 NFL season.
With the Vikings attempting to lure quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency, it is likely that Bridgewater could be headed elsewhere. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, his prospects are already looking up this offseason:
Spotted last night in Indianapolis: Vikings free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater, who was there to speak to children about playing football. At least a handful of teams expressed interest in Bridgewater last week as a potential starting QB, as he does have a market.
Bridgewater's career in Minnesota had gotten off to a promising start after the Vikings moved up in the 2014 NFL Draft to select him with the 32 overall pick. It was not long before he earned the starting job after replacing an injured Matt Cassell during his rookie year.
He had established himself as one of the more promising young quarterbacks in the league before suffering a devastating knee injury prior to the 2016 NFL season. He spent that year rehabilitating which was followed by a triumphant return to football in the 2017 campaign.
However, with Minnesota on the brink of taking that next step into Super Bowl contention, it is unlikely that they are willing to gamble on Bridgewater returning to his former self.
