Takeaways from Klay Thompson's return to Warriors
4. The Chase Center can get loud
One thing Warriors fans miss about the legendary Oracle Arena in Oakland is how loud it got there (Roaracle). Since moving to San Francisco, it has been a great environment, but sometimes a little too laid-back for some people's liking. It could be because of the amount of success the team had in the past, or it might be simply because they had all of their stars during that time.
Sunday, for the first time, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green shared the court inside the Chase Center. The atmosphere was insane. You felt the energy in the building during the announcement of the starting lineup. Thompson was the last name called during the introduction, and the fans greeted him with applause that shook the building. It felt like Roaracle for at least one night.
3. Klay Thompson wasn't shy on the court at all
Article Continues BelowThe first opportunity Thompson got the ball he immediately attacked the basket. He took it into the land of the giants and finished a tough floater to get his first points since the 2019 NBA Finals. His first few points scored he displayed his ability to be a three-level scorer. He dunked in traffic over 7-footers, he made midrange jumpers, and he knocked down 3 3-pointers.
During one timeout, Thompson — who is a quiet person — couldn't hold back his emotions. The Warriors star ran to the crowd while screaming and flexing with joy pouring out of him. It was one of the best moments of the game.
2. A new Klay Thompson
The old Thompson didn't seem the most interested in talking to the media. But after his first game, it looked like he wanted to talk. Maybe it's the thrill of being back on the court, but people who have been around Thompson say they noticed a change as well.
In his media appearance after the game, he showed and expressed how delighted he was to be back. He talked about the dark times he went through during his time away from the game and more. He has always been a player people enjoyed, but the new, more talkative Thompson makes you love him even more.
1. Klay Thompson is a superstar
Thompson took over the NBA on Sunday night. There wasn't a player or fan who wasn't watching or trying to keep up with him. On social media and TV, all you saw was Klay Thompson. It was #KlayDay everywhere, and now the Warriors have him back as they look to win another title.
