The Los Angeles Lakers' decision to hire Darvin Ham as their head coach has a major impact on Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. After all for Green, it's more than just about basketball.

Both Ham and Green are from Saginaw, Michigan, so to see someone from the small town take over a storied franchise like the Lakers is “groundbreaking” as the Warriors vet put it.

Green shared his reaction to the news on his podcast, noting that it is truly a momentous achievement. He then took to Twitter to give a shoutout to the new Lakers tactician.

“This is so much bigger than some Xs and Os — for me, this is everything,” Green shared.

Ham beat Terry Stotts and Kenny Atkinson for the Lakers job, and true enough, the move has been met with a ton of praise as fans and experts alike shared their belief that the former Milwaukee Bucks assistant is the right man for the job.

The 48-year-old coach won the NBA championship with the Bucks in 2021, adding to the one title he won as a player with the Detroit Pistons in 2004. While he is a first-time head coach, he has certainly paid his dues in the league and is more than ready to take on a bigger role.

Darvin Ham's Lakers will try to dethrone the Warriors as the top team in the West come next season, but while they may be opponents on the floor, Draymond Green will certainly remain supportive of his fellow Saginaw native.
