It’s easy to pigeonhole professional athletes and define them solely by their abilities on the court. But for many athletes, there’s much more than meets the eye. Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant is using his new signature shoes to express himself.
Durant told Max Resetar of Slam:
“It’s just centered around everything that goes into getting up and perfecting my craft. I think just the mindset that I have as I look to get better as a player is what I try to tell through my shoes.”
His shoes are an extension of himself and it’s just one way for him to express himself. Durant tries to find different ways to express himself.
“Different forms of expression has always been my thing and I think I say a lot about myself and who I am when I play, but it’s kind of hard for people to translate that into words. I just try to give back stories and experiences that I’ve been through and hopefully it relates to someone and it helps. I guess that’s just my main goal out of everything, to always put back good energy, inspiring energy. Hopefully it sticks.”
Durant isn’t exactly a fan favorite around the league, but there’s more than meets the eye. Everyone seems to have an opinion on Durant and it’s nice for KD to be able to express himself without any of the noise that usually follows him.
It’s important for Durant to express himself in these ways if he wants to cut through the noise.
