Kevin Durant now has the longest All-Star streak (nine) in the NBA behind none other than LeBron James (14). This accomplishment is further drawing the line of comparison between both players, especially since Durant is now starting to be named as James' successor as the best player in the NBA.

After being named an All-Star starter for this year's game, Durant finished second to his teammate Stephen Curry in gaining the most votes in the Western Conference. Before the results were even tallied, Durant made it known that he did not wish to become a captain, per the Athletic.

“I don't want to do it,” Durant told The Athletic. “I'd rather somebody else do it. It's cool to be an All-Star, but all the extra stuff … I just want to go play in the game. (The new format)'s cool, a different way, a creative way that's good for the fans. But me, I'll let somebody else pick the teams.”

Although Durant won't get to choose anyway, this just goes to show that the selection is just another accomplishment for him. Durant has already been compared to James ever since the two met in the 2012 NBA Finals, where the Heat beat the Thunder 4-1. Of course, Durant returned the favor as the Warriors defeated the Cavaliers 4-1, where Durant hit the biggest shot in the series over James.

Currently, James has five more All-Star selections than Durant because he was drafted four years before the Slim Reaper. Both players are among the best players in the NBA, but statistics and the stellar play of the two superstars will eventually tell who is the better player.
