Before the Golden State Warriors took on the Oklahoma City Thunder on opening night, news broke that guard Patrick McCaw would not be in attendance to receive his 2018 championship ring. McCaw is still a restricted free agent after turning down two contract offers from the Warriors.
So, where was McCaw while his team was playing on national television? Apparently, the 22-year-old was back in his hometown of St. Louis working out.
Patrick McCaw is reportedly ignoring several of his veteran teammates on the Warriors who have reached out to him during this strange holdout. In 57 regular-season games last year, McCaw only averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. He did suffer a gruesome back injury and missed a bevy of games as a result.
This saga keeps getting stranger by the day. McCaw doesn't want to play for the best team in the league, and is working out at a high school in St. Louis instead of being in The Bay Area to receive his ring? There could be something going on with McCaw in his personal life and that's why he's back home. However, until we get further details, all these are just speculations.
As a restricted free agent, Golden State can match any offer sheet Patrick McCaw signs with another team. As of now, no other clubs have shown interest in him.
