While the Golden State Warriors were able to secure Game 1 against the Los Angeles Clippers, head coach Steve Kerr is not convinced they played the better game.
The Warriors managed to beat the Clippers rather comfortably with a score of 121-104. However, Kerr still feels Golden State was outplayed by Doc Rivers and his LA-based squad.
Steve Kerr's comments are certainly understandable. The game was much closer than the final score indicates. There was no shortage of effort on the Clippers end, and for a moment, it appeared as though they would be able to give the Warriors a run for their money.
Unfortunately, it was only a matter of time before Golden State's star-studded roster proved to be too much for Los Angeles to handle.
The Clippers managed to get under the Dubs' skin early, thanks to the efforts of Patrick Beverley. Although he finished with three points, seven assists and seven rebounds, his biggest contribution was perhaps getting forward Kevin Durant ejected from the game. While his subsequent ejection did his team no favor, it further proved that even the mighty Warriors can occasionally have lapses in judgment in a competitive atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Golden State is one of the few teams that can get away with being outplayed thanks to the wealth of talent on their roster. For every run the Clippers went on, the Warriors answered back with an even more significant one of their own. Regardless, Kerr knows full well that his team will need to maintain their focus as they look to defend their title once again.
