Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is emerging as the frontrunner to replace the legendary Gregg Popovich as the next boss of the Team USA Basketball program, according to Substack's Marc Stein.

Kerr, who has been in charge of the Warriors since 2014, has prior experience with the national team alongside Pop. He was an assistant this past summer in Tokyo as Team USA lifted the gold after an opening loss to France. Steve Kerr was also on the staff during the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

There have been other names thrown into the hat as well like Miami's Erik Spoelstra, who has experience at the national level as well. Monty Williams, Tom Thibodeau, and Nate McMillan are all coaches to keep an eye on, too.

Team USA president Grant Hill told The Undefeated after succeeding Jerry Colangelo that he is hoping to name his next head coach before NBA tip-off on October 19th. That being said, Steve Kerr could have another job other than just being in charge of the Warriors very soon.

During his time in Golden State to this point, Kerr has helped the franchise win three NBA titles while also being named Coach of the Year in 2016.
