Washington State ex-coach Nick Rolovich rolled the dice by choosing not to get the vaccine which was required, per a state mandate, in order for him to keep his job. The Cougars made the decision to fire Rolovich on Monday and on Wednesday, through his lawyer, Rolovich plans to take legal action.

This was expected to come in some form or fashion following Rolovich's dismissal from Washington State.

It was a state mandate in Washington requiring state employees , including Washington State, to get vaccinated. Rolovich and four of his assistant coaches were fired as a result for refusing to get the vaccine.

Athletic Director Pat Chun sounded more than disappointed about the final result, per USA Today.

“To be at this juncture today is unacceptable on so many levels and is antithetical to the WSU experience our student-athletes so richly deserve,” WSU athletics director Pat Chun said Monday. “I'm saddened for our football alumni and to all the proud Cougs all over the world for the fracturing that has transpired over the past few months. We need to infuse compassion, empathy and unity back into our WSU community, and that healing process needs to be begin immediately.”

What happens next with Rolovich and Washington State and the legal action that is being taken is anyone's guess. It's a disappointing outcome for a coach that the players backed from the get-go in that Cougars locker room, per the Seattle Times.

“This man changed my life in so many ways,” standout corner Jaylen Watson wrote. “A real stand up dude that always stands on what he believes in heart was so pure and a true role model to me and my teammates. Was always bigger than a dollar sign which is the only thing you wrap your fingers around.”

“Words cannot express our profound sadness and disappointment in the termination of our Coach, Nick Rolovich. Playing for him was a great honor that all of us will cherish forever. He put trust in me and allowed me to grow as a man both on and off the field. For that reason, we strongly disagree with today’s decision,” Washington State quarterback Jayden de Laura said.
