The New England Patriots had the pleasure of having Tom Brady as their quarterback for the last 20 years. This offseason though, he left in free agency and signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

That meant that they definitely weren't bringing back Jameis Winston, who had been their main quarterback for the last five years.

So why not pull off the classic swap? Brady went to the Buccaneers, what if Winston goes to the Patriots? It's definitely at least something to consider.

Well, now that you mention it, New England could actually be a perfect fit for Winston. Here's why.

At first look, Winston might not seem like a good fit at all for the Patriots. Simply because of the turnovers.

In 2019, Winston threw a ridiculous 30 interceptions. Meanwhile, Brady had 29 interceptions combined over the last four seasons for New England.

That alone might make you think this marriage wouldn't work. The Patriots haven't had a turnover-prone quarterback in what seems like forever. So why would they jump to the man that led the NFL in interceptions last season?

Well, let's start with the other numbers. Yes, Winston threw 30 interceptions last season. He did so while leading the NFL in passing yards (5,109) and throwing the second-most touchdowns (33).

Tampa Bay also took a lot more risks than New England. For proof, just look at the numbers. Brady threw for 4,057 yards on 613 pass attempts (6.6 yards per attempt). Meanwhile, Winston threw for 5,109 yards on 626 pass attempts (8.2 yards per attempt).

That's a pretty massive difference.

Then you have to look at the coaches. Bruce Arians is the coach for the Buccaneers, and he's a fantastic offensive mind. He's going to take those chances though.

Whereas Bill Belichick and the Patriots are going to be a bit more conservative. They'll play it safe and march down the field. Maybe that's something that would really help Winston's efficiency.

However, Belichick will still open it up every once in a while. And that's going to allow Winston to show off that incredible arm talent more than enough.

So we'd still be treated with some bombs, but get a more efficient Winston out of it.

It's also important to note Winston's history. Before 2019, he had never thrown more than 18 interceptions in a season.

No, he's never exactly been stingy with turnovers (11 interceptions in 13 games in 2017 is his career-low), but he's never had an issue like 2019 before.

There are a number of factors that could have led to the high number. And Belichick would likely get to the bottom of the situation and make sure it is corrected.

Most importantly though, Winston is just 26. He's still learning and has a long career ahead of him.

Belichick could still mold him into the quarterback he wants. And the Patriots could have their QB for the next decade.

There are definitely flaws when it comes to Winston. But there are flaws with every quarterback. Even through all that, the talent is evident. There's definitely something special with the quarterback and New England might be able to get the best out of him.

This also fills a need for the Patriots while finding a home for Winston. They are helping each other, and might just find they fit perfectly while doing so.
