Arguably the greatest women's tennis player in history, Serena Williams, made her return to the sport 364 days since retiring with an injury in the first round of Wimbledon last year. She found herself up against the 115th ranked player in the world in Harmony Tan. In a thrilling back-and-forth match, Tan pulled off an incredible upset, 75-,1-6, 7-6 (10-7).

After the incredible match, Tan spoke to all of the people watching at the All England Club. She revealed something that's quite amazing.

“When I first saw the draw, I was really scared. Because it's Serena Williams, she is a legend… I was like ‘how can I play?' and if I win one game or two games, it (would be) really good for me,” Tan said.

Generally, you want professional athletes to have a little more confidence in themselves than that. But her sentiments are quite understandable. Serena Williams had only lost in the first round of a major twice in her career, with last year being due to injury.

However, Tan did not play like she was intimidated. She hit a number of fantastic shots in the third and deciding set. When Williams jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the tiebreak, she did not fold under the pressure. She stepped up her game and hit a couple winners, as well as play solid defense and let Williams make the mistake.

Williams committed 54 unforced errors in the loss. Meanwhile, Tan had only 28. Tennis fans are likely sad they will not see Serena Williams in this tournament any longer, and her future is in doubt. She is 40 years old, soon to be 41. There is no guarantee she will ever play at Wimbledon again.
