The Kristaps Porzingis trade has yet to pay any dividend for the Washington Wizards. The 26-year-old has no timetable for his return to action, so the Wizards may not get to see him play for a while, though he is still progressing. The tandem between him and Bradley Beal could make the offense much better.

Despite the never-ending injury history of his new co-star, Beal sounded enthused about the Porzingis trade, suggesting that a lineup with him, Daniel Gafford and Kyle Kuzma could provide some size that Washington hasn't yet tapped into.

The opportunity to stand on the shoulders of giants — or, at least, benefit from a lineup with size — will give Beal a reason to consider sticking with the Wizards, which he has to decide on soon. The franchise has toiled in mediocrity for years with no end in sight.

Porzingis' proneness to injury will do Washington no favors. His shooting abilities make for an interesting pairing with Gafford. It would offer some versatility on offense and add shot-blocking. However, the Wizards can't rely on him to be their second star. His inconsistency on the court is already a big enough reason but his injuries make the need for more star power greater.

Washington is 28-33 this season and will almost certainly end up out of playoff contention with Beal and Porzingis sidelined.
