The Washington Wizards, though considered one of the more popular teams in the NBA, is not getting much media coverage. And for star guard John Wall, this is where his team thrives most.

Wall recalled the time when the Wizards were getting a chunk of the attention from news outlets. The end result wasn't too beneficial as the attention evolved into pressure and expectations. Now, Wall believes that his team performs better when they are under the radar — no chips on their shoulder or any form of pressure:

“It's even better. When we were that team that was flying under the radar, we came out and showed people what we was capable of. Then, when we were the team that everyone was talking about and everyone had so much high expectations for, we kind of failed those expectations,” Wall told Chase Hughes of NBC Sports.

Some may say that the Wizards have fallen off. Once upon a time, they were considered one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Wall himself rose up the ranks and was considered one of the elites. Yet as time progressed, up and coming teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks seemingly took the stage away from them.

Despite these realities, Wall seems unaffected. It doesn't bother him that the Wizards are being overlooked and not considered a serious contender:

“It's just extra motivation for me. It don't matter to me. A lot of guys don't talk about me being a top-5 point guard and that's cool. It's just more motivation for me and for us as a team,” he said.
