The Washington Wizards will be relieved to know that star point guard Russell Westbrook is making progress with his left quad injury. Ohm Youndmisuk of ESPN reported the status update for Westbrook:

According to the NBA, Westbrook sustained this injury around a week ago, as he experienced repeated physical contact to that particular area since the very start of the season.

Bradley Beal and the Wizards will need all the help that they can get, as the team is sitting second to last in the Eastern Conference with a record of 3-8. In the seven games that Westbrook has played so far, he has averaged 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 11.3 assists. One would think that Westbrook's numbers alongside Beal's league-high of 34.9 points a game would produce an above .500 record. However, that has been far from the case.

When Beal and Westbrook paired up after Westbrook was traded to the Wizards for John Wall, they were regarded as one of the best backcourts the league had to offer. With the talented Rui Hachimura and Thomas Bryant making up the frontcourt, the Wizards had the potential to compete with the best teams in both conferences. Whether it be a lack of chemistry or simply poor effort, the Wizards have not produced the results they wanted to see.

The Wizards fans can only hope that having Westbrook back will instill a new sense of confidence within the team, as their chances to compete for a spot in the playoffs keeps diminishing with each loss. The Wizards will be facing the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow and Westbrook's former team, the Houston Rockets, the day after.
