The Washington Wizards were one of the worst teams in the league last season, and head coach Scott Brooks wants to take a significant amount of the blame.

The Wizards finished with an abysmal 32-50 record after starting last season with playoff expectations. Brooks admitted to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated that he didn't do a good job coaching the team, adding that there were a lot of ways he could've done things differently.

“Well, you know a couple of things. I look back to the last couple of months. First thing you look back, I didn't do a good job. I could have done things different, and then I think we've had some unfortunate luck with injuries and that's the part you hate but you don't prepare for it,” Brooks said. “You can never prepare for John missing 40 games last season and 50 games this season. Now who knows if he even plays. He's working his butt off to get back, but I wasn't expecting all that. I figured, ‘OK, we had our bad injury year,' but last year it was just from the start. It was tough and John was a big part of our team. We were really good when John was healthy.”

Injuries were certainly one of the main reasons why the Wizards struggled to win games, especially with All-Star guard John Wall and Dwight Howard suffering season-ending injuries. However, no one can actually say that Brooks wasn't part of the problem.

Offensively, the Wizards were one of the ten best teams in the league in 2018-19. However, their 29th-ranked defense that allowed opponents to score an average of 117 points is what eventually doomed them.

The Wizards are hoping that this season will be much better for them. They will rely heavily on Bradley Beal's leadership and talent all year long, and if everything goes their way, Washington could be back in the playoffs sooner than what most people expect.
