Oklahoma City Thunder vice president of basketball operations Troy Weaver reportedly returned to Washington on Tuesday to interview a second time for the Wizards’ open front office position, according to Fred Katz and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Wizards are looking for a new president of basketball operations after firing Ernie Grunfeld, who had been with the franchise since 2002.

The Wizards brass and Weaver, a D.C. native, first met April 30, a day when Washington unconventionally reeled off interviews with three candidates to replace former president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld.

Mention Weaver to people around the league and they will talk first about the strong connection the front-office veteran has with players.

Weaver overlapped in Oklahoma City with current Wizards coach Scott Brooks, who coached the Thunder from 2008 to 2015. The two are still thought to have an amicable relationship, even though Brooks and OKC parted ways following the 2014-15 season.

The Wizards missed the playoffs this season for the first time since 2016. The supermax contract John Wall signed kicks in next season, but it's unknown if the All-Star will play at all in 2019-20 since he's recovering from heel and Achilles surgery.

Until Wall returns, Bradley Beal is the best player on the Wizards.

He's eligible for a supermax contract this summer if he makes an All-NBA team.
