Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal became eligible for a four-year, $181.5 million extension on Friday, and it was a formality for the Wizards to put that offer on the table, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

The Wizards are also open to Beal signing another short-term deal like he did in 2019, when he inked a two-year extension that kicks in this season. He has a player option for the 2022-23 season.

While Washington would love to get Bradley Beal to put pen to paper again, the star shooting guard recently said he's “not in a rush” to sign anything. Beal could wait and become a free agent next summer by declining the 2022-23 player option, which would then make him eligible for a five-year max worth around $235 million.

Given all the trade rumors surrounding Beal in recent years, it would make sense to wait and see how things play out this season. Some big changes were made this past offseason, with Russell Westbrook going to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade. The Wizards brought in Spencer Dinwiddie, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Aaron Holiday as part of a five-way trade.

If Washington struggles, Bradley Beal could look to ask for a trade. If things go well, the star could get that monster contract next summer. The Wizards shooting guard is coming off a season in which he was second in the NBA in scoring, putting up 31.3 points per game to finish just behind Stephen Curry.
