In a wild turn of events, the Michigan Wolverines got into an altercation with the Wisconsin Badgers at the end of the game. Tempers flared once Juwan Howard and Greg Gard met for the postgame handshake. Due to a questionable timeout call by Gard late in the fourth quarter, the two coaches came at odds.
Howard opens up about how the brawl ensued, per Matt Belz. According to the Wolverines head coach, he didn't like how Gard grabbed him in the postgame handshake. He goes on to explain his actions.

According to Michael Cohen, the Wolverines coach was upset about the late timeout call and “expressed that frustration to Greg Ward.” This doesn't condone his actions whatsoever, but clearly, Howard and Ward had some beef to settle. It was an ugly scene and the NCAA is bound to suspend some coaches and players with March Madness right around the corner.

Juwan Howard has not apologized for anything that happened. Said he was upset about Wisconsin calling a timeout late in the game. He expressed that frustration to Greg Gard. Howard said Gard touched him during the postgame line and he felt the need to defend himself. #Michigan

Juwan Howard did mention that it “was unfortunate that some of the players also threw punches,” per Michael Cohen. Although the Wolverines have each other's back, it was an unnecessary fight that could have been avoided. At the end of the day though, Wisconsin takes home the win and increases their chances of making a potential run in the upcoming tournament.
Howard said it was unfortunate that some of the players also threw punches. He admired them for backing each other up but didn’t want it to go that way. Howard’s presser is over. He did not apologize for his actions. #Michigan

Suspensions are incoming, but for now, nobody knows how harsh the punishment will be. The NCAA is sure to take their time to ensure they make the correct decisions. This fight could prove to be consequential for both the Wolverines and the Badgers, as this is an extremely crucial time of the season.
