Barcelona manager Xavi has revealed that the Catalan side views Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski as an “option” heading into the summer transfer window.

Lewandowski’s long-term future at the Bundesliga powerhouse was a talking point for the reigning German top flight champions throughout this past season. The Polish international has one more season remaining on his contract, and Barca is keeping an eye on the situation between the veteran forward and Bayern Munich club officials.

“Yes, Lewandowski is an option,” Xavi said during a pre-match press conference for the La Liga home fixture against Villarreal.

“He has already said he wants to leave, there are negotiations, but he still has a contract at his club. It won't be easy being Bayern, but it's an option.”

After Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga season finale against VfL Wolfsburg, Lewandowski did confirm that he does not aspire to sign off on a contract extension deal with the club. On the other hand, Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn chimed in on the dilemma by noting that the club does not have any intention of parting ways with the forward in the coming months.

Barca has reportedly already met with Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, about the possibility of signing the reigning European Golden Boot winner. It remains to be seen whether the club plans to once again touch base with Zahavi on this matter in the coming weeks.

Barcelona will finish its La Liga campaign with a home clash against Villarreal on matchday 38.
