Gordon Hayward has agreed to become a member of the Charlotte Hornets, which has awarded the Hornets franchise their first major signing through free agency in recent memory. Hayward agreed to four-year, $120 million contract with Buzz City on Saturday—more than most executives thought he was worth in such a weak market.

Still, the Hornets have a lot to rejoice about in picking up a veteran presence such as Hayward. The All-Star wing gives them a much-needed presence on the court that they haven't possessed in years. He's battled a few injuries in his days with the Boston Celtics, which has hindered his true abilities that made him the top sought-out free agent during the 2017 offseason.

Even so, if he can remain healthy, Hayward could help the Hornets achieve milestones that they haven't had the fortune of captivating in recent years.

Here are a few predictions that could happen during Hayward's time in Charlotte.

1. Hayward leads the team in scoring

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Michael Jordan and the Hornets front office didn't spend $120 million on Gordon Hayward to watch him become the fourth fiddle much like he did in Boston. Hayward's joining a team composed of players mostly still in their early-to-mid 20's, most of whom haven't found their niche on the team yet.

Given how the roster is beginning to shape out, it's safe to say that most of those players will be leaning on Hayward to produce while learning some key techniques from the 11-year vet.

Hayward finished last season averaging 17.5 points per game, which could've been higher if not for injuries that plagued a better portion of an already-shortened season. He suffered a broken hand earlier in the season while spraining his ankle during the Disney bubble, both of which required him to miss a considerable amount of time.

Upon a clean bill of health, Hayward will return to his Utah Jazz days in terms of scoring, averaging 24-plus points per game.

Gordon Hayward Hornets LaMelo Ball

2. Hayward becomes primary ball-handler

This is a daring but very realistic take. The Hornets do have technically three point guards in Devonte' Graham, Terry Rozier and now LaMelo Ball, which leaves quite a logjam in the backcourt in terms of minutes. With all the competition that'll surely ensue between the three, usually that leads to frequent mishaps that can cause a coach to go in a different direction.

Hayward is a tremendous playmaker and offense-originator for his size and position. He frequently initiated offense for the Celtics, which allowed the guards to play off the ball more and generate more scoring.

While the Hornets coaching staff figures out the dilemma in the backcourt, they could ease the burden off themselves by allowing a seasoned vet such as Hayward to handle the offense for the better part of the season.

3. Hayward helps the Hornets make the playoffs

By no means are the Hornets championship contenders this season, and Gordon Hayward was surely aware of that when he inked his massive deal last week. Be that as it may, the Eastern Conference is known more or less for being wide open at the bottom portion of the standings.

With some impressive playing from the Hornets, they can buy their way into the eighth or seventh seed in the East, affording them their first appearance since 2016. While they still may share the same fate as their previous appearances and become a first-round exit, Hayward at least opens up the possibility of a playoff berth, which can put more eyes on the franchise in terms of pending free agents in 2021.
