The Boston Celtics got taken to the woodshed by the Golden State Warriors in Game 2, and you know what that means: a flood of overreactions, of course! With that said, let's take a look at some of these hot takes following the Celtics' lopsided loss to Stephen Curry and the Warriors.

3 Celtics overreactions to their Game 2 loss to Warriors

3. Jayson Tatum should tale fewer shots and pass the ball more

It's always the best player on the team who gets the largest target on the back whenever his team loses, and while Jayson Tatum is not necessarily getting lambasted for his sub-optimal effort in Game 2, not a few are thinking he might have to give up some shots and let his teammates have more going forward. That's not really a bad idea, considering that when Tatum had 13 assists in Game 1 while he was struggling to make baskets, the Celtics managed to erase a big lead in the second half and steal a win at Chase Center.

But every game is a different experience with varied sequences that open doors to countless potential results, and regardless of how the Celtics fared when Tatum decided to be Jason Kidd out there in the series opener, they will always be in a much better position to win a game with Tatum not shying away from pulling the trigger. He did not send Kobe Bryant a text after leading the Celtics to a Game 7 win over the Miami Heat in the 2022 Eastern Conference finals just to let an embarrassing loss change the way he approaches his offensive game. In Game 2, Tatum went 7/16 in the first half for 21 points, which kept the Celtics just two points behind the Warriors. In the third quarter, Tatum took only two shots and barely played in the final period, which was basically just 12 minutes of garbage time. There's a lot of energy left in Tatum, and he will just have to channel that through an aggressive offense, beginning in Game 3 at home.

2. Al Horford had already reached his peak in the 2021 NBA Finals

Horford was talked about like he's the patron saint of old guys and a Greek mythology god in one body after going off for 26 points on 75 percent shooting from the field in Game 1. The Celtics wouldn't have won that game and taken a 1-0 series lead if it weren't for Big Al's explosion. But then all the excitement about Horford's continued renaissance took a nosedive in Game 2 where he coughed up a grand total of two points, knocking down just a shot on four attempts.

Scoring 26 points and draining a total of six 3-pointers in Game 1 were indeed surprising feats for Horford that gave birth to another set of overreactions as you probably have already seen in the form of memes, but to say that he's not going to surpass that kind of performance is too premature to say. Horford remains an integral part of the Celtics, whose chances of winning the championship against Golden State hinge significantly on what he could do the rest of the way. He does not have to score at least 26 again to impress in a grander manner in this series. His ability to contribute in a number of ways should leave people expecting a bigger showing from him in one of the games ahead instead of thinking that Horford has already hit his ceiling in this series.

1. The Celtics are going to get gentleman-swept

The Celtics got absolutely dominated by Golden State in Game 2, and that's one of the most obvious things you can say about that meeting. Then again, that's just one game and one win for Golden State. You could argue that the pressure is still with the Warriors, as they are going to play the next two games of the series at TD Garden in front of what should be a hostile crowd.

The series is far from over, and while it's easy to raise questions about whether the Celtics still have it in them to come back from such a devastating defeat at the hands of a proven championship squad and score a win, the reality is that those shouldn't even be asked at all because reaching the Finals alone speaks a lot about the strong materials these teams are made of. Let's not forget that the Celtics wiped out the Brooklyn Nets in the first round and overcame 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 deficits in the second round against the Milwaukee Bucks. Never count out the Celtics, especially if it is this early.
