The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed their offensive needs in a big way in the 2022 NFL Draft. They picked quarterback Kenny Pickett and wide receiver George Pickens with their first two selections. Now, the team still has some needs to address heading into the summer before training camp.

The team has a rich history that includes six Super Bowl rings, but it's been over 13 years since their last one. Despite making the playoffs in 2021, Pittsburgh hasn't been a legitimate threat for a handful of years now.

Here are three moves the Steelers should make post-NFL Draft to fortify their team's 2022 playoff chances.

Steelers moves after 2022 NFL Draft

3. Sign a cornerback from free agency

The Steelers made some reinforcements at the position in the offseason, which included bringing Akhello Witherspoon back and signing veteran Levi Wallace. The team still lacks an additional option at the position though, particularly in the event of an injury. Behind those two, Cameron Sutton, Arthur Maulet, James Pierre, and Justin Layne fill out the CB room. Sutton is a formidable option, but the latter three failed to prove much in 2021 on defense. Tre Norwood showed the ability to slide over to corner at times as well.

Another option for the Steelers would significantly strengthen their depth at cornerback. James Bradberry was just released this week by the Giants due to his upcoming salary hit of $21.9 million. Bradberry's proven to still be a good cornerback, although he may choose somewhere in which he'd get significant playing time and decent money. It's unclear just how much the Steelers would be able to fulfill those two potential deterrents. Joe Haden remains a free agent after five seasons in Pittsburgh, although a return seems highly unlikely now. Regardless, an additional depth signing at corner would benefit the Steelers in training camp and beyond.

2. Bring in a veteran running back

The Steelers selected Najee Harris with their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He didn't disappoint in his rookie season, as his 1,200 rushing yards were fourth-most in the NFL. In other words, the Alabama product didn't disappoint whatsoever. The team was forced to rely on him a bit too much though, as his 307 carries were the second-most to Jonathan Taylor's 332 rushes. Harris' excellence played a role in the amount of carries he got, but so did the guys behind him. Benny Snell Jr. was second on the team with 36 carries, which went for under 100 yards. That equates to two carries a game from Snell, and that includes Harris missing a game.

Because of these reasons, many speculated the Steelers would select another running back in the 2022 NFL Draft. That didn't happen, as they spent two picks on both the quarterback and wide receiver positions. The team signed undrafted free agent running back Mataeo Durant after the draft. Durant enjoyed a successful career at Duke and has a shot at making the team. Snell, Anthony McFarland, UDFA Jaylen Warren, and Trey Edmunds are the other running backs currently on the team. Sony Michel and Mike Davis were just signed, but there remains a few solid options for the Steelers. Veterans Philip Lindsay, Wayne Gallman, and Tarik Cohen would all offer a different dynamic to the Steelers backfield.

1. Cut ties with QB Mason Rudolph

The Steelers future at quarterback is set for the next few seasons. Mitch Trubisky was signed earlier in the offseason to a two-year, $14 million deal. Pickett was then selected with the 20th overall pick in the draft. Those two will have an open quarterback competition, and coach Mike Tomlin has even given Mason Rudolph a chance to be apart of that as well. At this point, Rudolph is not worth keeping around. The Steelers have brought in three (seventh-rounder Chris Oladukon as well) quarterbacks this offseason for a reason. Rudolph simply is not the answer at quarterback for the Steelers, not even as a backup. With two rookies and Trubisky, they have plenty of talent in the QB room to move on from Mason Rudolph.
