The 2021 NBA Draft is expected to be filled with talented players who can make a difference on an NBA roster. Among the elite names fans are excited to hear get called on draft day are Cade Cunningham and Jalen Suggs. But what about Davion Mitchell of the Baylor Bears? Davion Mitchell has emerged as a fan favorite in his junior season in Waco. Mitchell continues to gain NBA interest in him, thanks to the large role he's playing for the National Championship-bound Bears.

The beautiful thing about Mitchell is that he can be utilized in a variety of situations. He’s a phenomenal playmaker who can scan the floor better than a lot of point guards. Mitchell’s priority is to allow his teammates to be involved in the offense early. Mitchell is also a potent scorer who can be relied upon to get buckets when needed. This season, Mitchell is averaging 14 points per game along with 5.5 assists. His shooting numbers also took a big leap as he’s shooting 51% from the field.

Another huge part of Mitchell’s game is his tremendous perimeter defense. Mitchell’s energy on the defensive side of the floor plays a big role in Baylor’s fantastic season. Due to his incredible tenacity, Mitchell was able to win the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award.

As Mitchell transitions from college to the NBA, many organizations will want to take him in a heartbeat. He’s a mature 22-year-old phenom who plays his role perfectly. With that being said, any coach in the NBA will want to have him. Here are three teams that should be in play to select Davion Mitchell in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Boston Celtics

Boston continues to gear for the future. Led by two young all-stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics should be a contender for years to come. One of the particular aspects that the Celtics seem to lack is security at the point guard position. Adding an NBA-ready player in Mitchell could potentially help fill that role for Boston.

Mitchell would be a great complement to Brown, Tatum, and even Kemba Walker. His ability to lead the floor on both ends could potentially elevate their chances as contenders. Mitchell can play a solid role behind Walker, as he further polishes his NBA skills.

Houston Rockets

Things may seem rocky in Houston this season, but the franchise can still look forward to a brighter future ahead of them. The combination of Christian Wood, Kevin Porter Jr, and others allows optimism that the Rockets will soon get out of their dry patch.

Whether being a starter or a role player, Mitchell can find a way to impact the Rockets. The team this season is ranked number 29 in defense and hasn’t shown any signs of improvement throughout this season. Mitchell could potentially become a Marcus Smart-like enforcer for the Rockets. As Smart has been the defensive anchor for the Boston Celtics, Mitchell can make the same impact under Stephen Silas.

Toronto Raptors

The curiosity is still up in the air whether franchise star Kyle Lowry will remain with Toronto after this season. As Lowry explores free agency this summer, he will look into other contenders and decide which decision will be best for him. This brings an opportunity for Toronto to find a player in the draft who can make the same impact as Lowry did. The Raptors are unlikely to get Cade Cunningham, but Davion Mitchell should be a nice target for the Raptors.

With Mitchell’s skill set, he can help everyone in Toronto become better versions of themselves. He can form chemistry with power forward Pascal Siakam and even complement potential backcourt mate Fred VanVleet. Mitchell landing in Toronto would add optimism for the franchise’s future.
