It's no secret that the 2021-22 season for the Los Angeles Lakers was a colossal disappointment. The Lakers' loss to the Phoenix Suns last Tuesday ended their hopes of getting the last play-in spot in the Western Conference.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel is expected to be let go by the end of the season. The team will need to find a suitable replacement to get back on track for a championship run.

With Quin Snyder and the Utah Jazz potentially parting ways, he would be an excellent option for the Lakers. Snyder would be a great fit because of his expertise on both defense and offense.

Vogel was a defensive coach but struggled with creating an offensive system. Snyder has been able to implement a good defensive system with the Jazz as well as elite three-point shooting on offense.

Why Quin Snyder should replace Frank Vogel as Lakers coach

3. Has experience with the Lakers

The Lakers are known for bringing back players or staff members that have a history with the organization. Snyder was an assistant coach during the 2011-2012 season, which gives him familiarity with the team.

The team would welcome him back with open arms, as he has led the Jazz to successful seasons. While they haven't made a deep playoff run, the Jazz have performed impressively. They just simply do not have the talent to keep up with other contenders in the NBA.

A change of scenery could be good for both sides, and if that happens, the Lakers need to pounce on signing Snyder as their next coach.

2. Can still coach the defense

The strength of Vogel as a coach is his defensive acumen. This was showcased in the 2019-20 season when the Lakers won the championship. Snyder is another good defensive coach and could help the squad establish a top defense in the league.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert has won three Defensive Player of the Year awards under Snyder, and Snyder could help Anthony Davis reach the same feat. Although Gobert is a top rim protector, he is not good at guarding guys on the perimeter. This has lead to mismatches in the pick-and-roll that opposing offenses have exploited. The same can not be said for Davis, who protects the rim at an elite level while providing solid defense on the perimeter.

AD's talent will allow Snyder to have an even better defense. It will also help Davis reach new heights and potentially take home the Defensive Player of the Year award.

1. Has an offensive system

Although Snyder and Vogel have a similar talent as defensive coaches, Snyder also has a sound offensive system. When Jason Kidd was the assistant coach on Vogel's staff, the Lakers' offense had a direction. However, with Kidd bolting to the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers struggled mightily this season with constant isolation plays and a stagnant offense.

Bringing in Snyder allows the Lakers to maintain a great defensive system while implementing an offense that works. The Jazz were the number one three-point shooting team in the 2020-21 season and are the second-best three-point shooting team this season.

With LeBron James as the focal point of the Lakers, a coach who can embolden more shooting will maximize the offense. LBJ thrives with great shooting around him, as he puts constant pressure on the defense, forcing them to send help, which frees up shooters.

It will take more than hiring a new coach to get the Lakers back on track, but Snyder could be a big part in bringing the team back to contention.
