A lot of talent could be on the move this MLB offseason, as contending teams look to shore up their rosters, while others prepare to offload assets they may not be able to hold onto down the line. One team selling during the offseason could be the Oakland Athletics, and they possess a prized asset that would be of interest to many teams.

Star first baseman Matt Olson has two years left on his contract and Oakland could be persuaded to offload the 27-year-old, for the right price. Olson is coming off his first-ever All-Star campaign and boasts Gold Glove-caliber defense while also possessing elite power at the plate. In 2021, Olson clubbed 39 home runs and drove in 111 RBI while logging a .911 OPS.

If the A's do decide to listen to offers on their slugger, these teams should be at the forefront of the negotiations, doing everything in their power to acquire Olson.

New York Yankees

With Anthony Rizzo set to hit free agency, the Yankees could try to bring the fan-favorite back to the Bronx. Alternatively, they could pursue a trade for Olson, who would provide them with elite offense and defense, and is five years younger. The Yankees brought in Rizzo at the trade deadline last year to add some left-handed power to their lineup, and Olson could end up being the long-term answer in that regard. While Rizzo was sensational in his stint with the Yankees, Olson is arguably the best first baseman in the sport, and if they have the chance to acquire him, Brian Cashman needs to act on it.

After a disappointing 2021 season, the Yankees need to get creative this offseason in order to get back to being World Series contenders. Whether the Yankees would be willing or able to match Oakland's demands in terms of prospects remains to be seen, but Olson could be the missing piece Aaron Boone and Co. have needed to find success in the Bronx. It's unlikely the Yankees are willing to part with top prospects Anthony Volpe or Jasson Dominguez, but the organization boasts a deep farm system that could force Oakland's hand.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers had a sensational 2021 campaign that saw the club win the NL Central. Despite their stellar regular season, the Brew Crew flamed out in the postseason, falling in the NLDS to the eventual World Series champions, the Atlanta Braves. The Brewers strengthened the roster with some solid mid-season acquisitions, such as Willy Adames, but is still room for improvement.

Rowdy Tellez was solid in Milwaukee, recording a .814 OPS with seven homers in 56 games, but if the Brewers could get their hands on Olson he would be a significant upgrade, particularly on defense. Plus, with the DH potentially headed to the National League, the Brewers could keep Tellez in a near-everyday playing role. Milwaukee still has the likes of Keston Hiura and Daniel Vogelbach able to play first base, but neither has proven very reliable nor consistent throughout their careers. If Milwaukee is aiming for World Series contention in 2022, Olson would go a long way towards helping them achieve that.

San Francisco Giants

A remarkable 107-win season didn't culminate in a World Series for the Giants. Still, even with Buster Posey headed for retirement, the Giants could be back in contention again in 2022. First baseman Brandon Belt is set to hit free agency, and perhaps GM Scott Harris would rather acquire Olson than pay Belt, who has been prone to injury over the past few years.

Belt has missed significant time in three of the last five seasons. He suited up just 97 times for the Giants last year, though he was still highly productive, slashing .274/.378/.597. Olson, on the other hand, is six years Belt's junior and has played nearly every game throughout the past two seasons. The 33-year-old Belt had a career year in 2021, but can the Giants rely on him to replicate that type of performance in 2022? Olson represents a safer, albeit more costly, option than Belt, but one the Giants could potentially build around long-term.
