San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle had quite the sophomore campaign in the Bay.

After catching nine passes for 149 yards and a touchdown during the 49ers' season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Kittle broke the single-season record for most receiving yards by a tight end, finishing with 1,377 yards on the year.

The record was actually broken twice on Sunday, with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce first breaking Rob Gronkowski's mark before Kittle shattered his.

In addition to his yardage total, Kittle also hauled in 88 receptions and five touchdowns on the year.

Kittle, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was originally selected by San Francisco in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He had a solid rookie season, catching 43 passes for 515 yards and a couple of scores, but no one could have expected the 25-year-old to bust out the way he did in 2018, especially with the 49ers missing starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for most of the year.

The Niners finished the season with a record of 4-12, but better days to appear to be on the horizon, as rookie signal-caller Nick Mullens played admirably in place of Garoppolo and the team seems to have some nice young talent moving forward.

San Francisco has not made the playoffs since 2013, when it lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. The 49ers made three straight postseason appearances between 2011 and 2013, making it all the way to the Super Bowl during the 2012-13 campaign.
