It is not often that there is a silver lining in a franchise player suffering a devastating injury. Fortunately, that appears to have been the case for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The 49ers landed the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft with a 4-12 record after Garoppolo's 2018 campaign was cut short by a torn ACL. According to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano, he is admittedly glad it resulted in them being able to being defensive end Nick Bosa aboard:

Jimmy Garoppolo calls his ACL tear a “blessing in disguise.”

“We got Bosa out of it. That’s a pretty good trade off, I guess.”

There is certainly plenty of truth to Garoppolo's comments. Although things had seemingly taken a turn for the worst early on, it is safe to say that it has helped San Francisco bounce back in spectacular fashion.

Bosa has lived up to the hype by establishing himself as a centerpiece for this formidable 49ers defense. He finished his stellar rookie campaign with 47 tackles, nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception en route to being pegged as the frontrunner for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. For Garoppolo, it seems it was a small price to pay for a shot at winning a Super bowl on his own merits.

San Francisco is coming in as the heavy favorites over Green Bay thanks to Bosa and their defense. However, the time has come for Garoppolo to prove that he is more than capable of competing with the likes of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers when it matters most.
