The quarterback situation of the San Francisco 49ers is still unresolved. Of course, veteran Jimmy Garoppolo is insistent that he should start, but rookie Trey Lance is also making a strong case to become QB 1.

While the quandary isn't entirely new in the NFL, it seems Garoppolo is heavily affected by it. He's always been a competitive guy, so the possibility of relinquishing his role to a still-unproven Lance isn't sitting well with him. So much so, he said he talked to former NFL star Drew Brees about it (via NBC Sports Bay Area).

“We were just kind of talking ball really. We talked about the situation for a little bit and how he and Taysom (Hill) did it. And it's a thing that I wasn't really used to, I guess you could say. Just the in and out part of it. So, I was trying to pick his brain, how he handled that. He’d come out for a play or two and then go back in, how that all works.”

Garoppolo seeking sage advice from Brees was a good move. After all, Brees went through the same thing during his latter years with the New Orleans Saints as Hill developed into a solid signal-caller.

But when prodded more about details of his conversation with Brees, the 29-year-old Garoppolo chose to stay mum.

“I’ll keep that between me and him, but just kind of a stay ready type of thing. Yeah, it's a different type of flow to the game. As a quarterback, you’re used to being out there the whole time. And so, it's just something that you’ve just got to get reps at and get used to it.”

At the very least, Jimmy Garoppolo is staying even-keeled about it.
