Following Saturday's 32-31 overtime loss to LSU, the Alabama Crimson Tide's college football playoff hopes are slim. Sitting with a record of 7-2, the team would have to win out in 2022 and hope teams ahead of them in the rankings choke, though the chances of that occurring are unlikely. The failures of Alabama this season have prompted SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum to believe that the dynasty head coach Nick Saban has built may be starting to crumble. However, according to beat reporter Mike Rodak, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has a different view of the situation.

“I texted [Paul] Finebaum on the way over here when I saw his quotes when he normally does and he says the Nick Saban dynasty is over, and all that,” Kiffin said. “Every time he says this — which I tell him — all he does is, I call it, like, GOAT fuel. The opposite of rat poison. You're just like, giving the GOAT fuel, which for him, that works. He goes and proves them wrong every time.”

Kiffin, a former offensive assistant at Alabama under Saban from 2014 to 2016, makes a good point. According to Sports Reference, no other coach in college football history has won more national championships (seven) than Saban, and his 276 wins rank sixth all-time. So perhaps it may be too soon to call the Saban dynasty over.

Lane Kiffin and Saban are set to face off on Saturday in a critical SEC matchup between Alabama and Ole Miss. Can the Crimson Tide right the ship and keep their small title hopes alive? Only time will tell.
