The Alabama football team is preparing for the Michigan football team in a matchup of two titanic, historically great football teams in Pasadena, California on January 1.

Recently Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh spoke glowingly about the Tide's QB Jalen Milroe. Coach Nick Saban reacted to the Tide's draw of Michigan in the College Football Playoff.

On Monday, college football writer Pete Thamel revealed a surprising transfer portal decision by Milroe's current backup that will have fans discussing.

Alabama QB Transfers in Different Sport

Quarterback Tyler Buchner started Alabama's game against South Florida on September 16, a 17-3 Crimson Tide win.

The 6-foot-1, 215 pound sophomore's underwhelming performance was not lost on Saban, however. Buchner threw for just 34 yards on five-for-14 passing with Alabama football in that game and did not start the reason of the season afterward.

According to Thamel, Buchner is expected to transfer as an athlete in different sport.

“Alabama QB Tyler Buchner is in the NCAA transfer portal as a men's lacrosse player. He's a former quarterback at Notre Dame. His Alabama bio says he played lacrosse in high school,” Thamel wrote on Twitter.

Thamel also said he spoke to a source close to Buchner, clarifying his likely future plans in football and lacrosse.

“A source close to Buchner said he's expected to explore his lacrosse options this spring,” Thamel said.

“He was considered one of the top lacrosse recruits in the country while in high school. He hasn't ruled out a return to football, but is expected to explore lacrosse in the immediate future.”

Saban, Tide the Underdog For Round One

Nick Saban has claimed seven championships as Alabama football's coach. The Tide opened as a two-point underdog against Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Harbaugh coached the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance but has yet to win an NCAA or NFL title.
