With the New Orleans Pelicans expected to keep both general manager Dell Demps and head coach Alvin Gentry on board next season, the following major objective on the agenda is the future of point guard Jrue Holiday.

The 26-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. In light of that, Gentry joined Sirius XM NBA Radio, where he stated that re-signing Holiday is “No.1 priority” for the Pelicans this upcoming offseason.

Talking to Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson on Tuesday during an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Gentry said that re-signing the 26-year-old point guard – who will soon hit unrestricted free agency – is a “No. 1 priority” for the organization.

Holiday will easily be the Pelicans' most notable free agent in the summer making his return next season a must for the organization. He is coming off yet another productive campaign where he averaged 15.4 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the field and 35.6 percent from beyond the arc along with 3.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.5 steals in 67 games played.

The biggest thing for Holiday was his sustained health throughout the season. After struggling with injuries over the last couple of seasons, 12 of those 15 contests that he missed occurred during his extended absence from the team due to caring for his wife, who had not only undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor but also given birth to their first child.

Holiday will likely draw plenty of interest on the open market that could significant drive up his asking price. This will be a strong litmus test to see how much New Orleans values him.

His presence would maintain much stability in the backcourt and allow for the Pelicans to see if the pairing of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins can equate to success and snap a two-year playoff drought.
